July 21, 2010
Sports fans and supporters of Allan Hancock College, get ready to raise your
hand, because on August 21 the Hancock College Boosters Inc. will open the
bidding on amazing sports memorabilia and one-of-a-kind auction items at the
ninth annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction.
“This auction has more sports-related and more unique items than any auction
you’ll find on the Central Coast,” said Jim Glines, auctioneer.
This is the only place in town where sports lovers can find a football signed
by John Madden, a
UCLA jersey signed by the late John Wooden, and an All-Star signature on an
All-Star Laker Jersey by Kobe Bryant—specifically for the Joe White Event. We’re
also close to finalizing the arrival of a basketball signed by every single
member of the Los Angeles Lakers 2010 NBA championship team, courtesy of former
Hancock coach Bill Bertka.
Besides sports memorabilia, other auction items available for purchase
include a wine refrigerator filled with local wine, private hitting and pitching
lessons with retired major-league pitcher Bryn Smith and multiple gourmet
dinners, including dinner with wine from the Hitching Post,
a five-course
Italian dinner for 10 with wine at Trattoria Uliveto,
and a filet and lobster feast for 20 prepared by Glines
and his famous barbeque crew.
The event will be held at the Santa Maria Fairpark Pavilion at 937 South
Thornburg in Santa Maria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour and
silent auction, followed by a New York strip steak dinner promptly at 7:07
p.m., with the live auction to follow.
The price of admission is $40 per person and tables for
10 are $400. Interested parties can raise their level of support by becoming a
“Gold Table Sponsor” for a donation of $1,000. Gold Table Sponsors will receive
premium seating for 10 guests, in addition to special wine with dinner and
sponsor mentions in the event program and during the evening.
